Ballston Spa Central School District has a vacancy for a Payroll Clerk. Position will be filled provisionally pending results of Civil Service exam given at a later date.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves responsibility for the performance of a variety of moderately complex clerical tasks in the preparation and control of municipal payrolls. The work requires a general understanding of specific laws, office rules, procedures and policies. The work is performed under general supervision of the County Treasurer/Director of Finance or higher raking position in accordance with established policies and procedures. Supervision of others is not a responsibility of this position. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (*Illustrative Only) When assigned to a town, village or school district: Prepares payroll from time sheets submitted by supervisors, mayors or principals; Computes and checks computations for all overtime pay and items to be deducted; Verifies time, attendance, sick and vacation reports; May print payroll checks for appropriate signature; May balance accounts and prepare bank deposits; May assist in maintaining personnel, material and operational cost records; May verify and reconcile account balances according to a prescribed procedure; Operates personal computer and other office machines; Performs various account clerical tasks including incidental typing, posting, indexing, filing and sorting.
